Women in poker are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with and are a rapidly growing demographic in the casinos and online US and Canadian Poker Rooms. Top players like Annie Duke have shown that women can easily compete with the "big boys," and many women now rank among the best poker players in the world. Poker rooms are seeing more women in their tournaments and cash games. The High Heels Poker Tour, founded by Lauren Failla and the High Heels Poker Tour Academy, co-founded by Lauren Failla and Poker Pro Lisa Adams, is one of the leading organizations that is encouraging the development of these emerging top female players.
The High Heels Poker Tour was established in 2007 exclusively for women poker players. The organization’s mission to empower women to become champion poker players in the growing world of poker. The tour aims to provide the best competitive environment where women can explore, develop, and continue growing and learning top strategies and their “A” game.”
The High Heels Poker Tour incorporates many of the aspects unique to women poker players that are not addressed by regular poker tournaments:
1. Schedules that aim to minimize family and business commitment conflicts
2. Buy ins that are kept at a reasonable number
3. Consideration for the fact that many women poker players have to consider family issues and schools in addition to normal scheduling.
The tour has grown to include tournaments all over the East Coast as well as co-sponsoring World Series of Poker Circuit Ladies only events. HHPT offers women's only tournaments within a competitive environment to women of all skill and experience levels. Women in Poker currently make up about 15% of the poker population, with the help of Lauren Failla and the HHPT, that number is sure to experience significant and steady growth.
